African- American women have been experiencing oppression because they are black, women and poor. This subjugation on the grounds of race, caste and gender out rightly denies then a human existence. Toni Morrison in her novals the Bluest Eye, Sula, Beloved and Love discusses the agony of her black female characters moving from self recognition to self alienation and also from physical to mental salvery.

Dr. Tarana Praveen is Senior Lecture in Department od English, Government Meera Girls College, Udaipur affiliated with Mohanlal sukhadia University, Udaiour, Rajasthan. Eariler she worked as assiatant Director College Education, of Rajasthan Govt. Udaipur region. She began her career as Lecturer in English while she was actively engaged in research in American Literature. She chose to be an academician even though she was selected for Rajasthan Administrative Services. She has been teaching English for twenty two years and has benefitted eight colleges in two states. Her area of specialization is American Literature and she is engaged in research in interdisciplinary studies. She has published books and presented papers in natonal and international conferences.
